Do Davids Bridal dresses run true to size?
They were generally true to size. Only one gal really needed significant alterations. Where she had trouble was the bust being too big. My dress and my bridesmaids’ dresses have fit true to size.

Don’t have all the details but I just brought mine to dB and it was about $150 for hemming a few layers, about $35 for shortening lace straps and another $20 to add in the cups. $205 total. cat89: yes you can buy off the rack at Davids bridal. They carry the dresses in one or two sizes in store pretty much pin or hold up the dress so brides can see how it fits. If you are really far off from their sample sizes, they may not have any on the rack that you can buy.

While it is often possible to size a dress up or down, don’t count on being able to take in or let out a dress by more than one or two sizes. Many dresses do not contain enough seam allowance to let out that much -– and with fabrics like velvet and satin, the original seam lines will show.

Taking a gown one to two sizes down is pretty common, and should still keep the integrity of the original design fairly easily. Of course, the closer to your actual size the better; you’ll save money in alterations, and the gown will look best when it is closest to how it was designed.
