I know it’s been 3 months since his birth, but I wanted to share the images taken at my son’s birth and the story behind it.
Spencer Lucas Fogg was born at 5:07AM on November 6th, 2012 at the UAB Women’s and Infants Center. It was definitely a difficult birth, but totally worth it! Kind of funny coincidence before I start the story. I had two Anesthesiologists, and one went to college with Ryan, and the other was my old high school friend Casey Hitt! So funny what a small world it is sometimes. Also, the day my water broke (and the day we thought he would be born), was our 8 year “dating anniversary.” Spencer opted to be born the next day though, Election Day haha.
So, I started having contractions Friday afternoon (November 2nd), they gradually got worse on Saturday, and then they were horrible on Sunday. BUT, even though I was having them every 5-16 minutes nonstop for those 3 days, they were not the consistent “5 minutes apart” that they tell you to wait for. I called the doctor to see if I could come in anyways because I was in so much pain by Sunday evening… but no. So I was basically in agony for a few days before my water finally broke on Monday morning (November 5th) at 7AM, and really hadn’t been able to sleep for 3 days.
We got to the hospital and I was immediatley given an epidural (so AMAZING when you have been having contractions for days!). They also started me on Pitocin because I was not progressing at all. Fast forward a to about 12AM when I finally was able to start pushing, and my epidural decided to quit working for the most part. So during the 2.5 hours of pushing, I felt a lot of pain, mainly in the form of back contractions… yeah not fun. No luck with the pushing because Spencer was too big, so they opted for a C-Section since I had been in active labor for so long and he wasn’t budging. So 22 hours after my water broke Spencer was born 🙂
I gained 60 pounds during my pregnancy, so we knew he would be a good sized baby, and he weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. He was 2 weeks early though, so he might have been a 9 pounder had he waited the 2 weeks! 🙂 We are so in love with our baby boy and are so lucky to have awesome family and friends to share him with!
Here are the pictures from the hospital experience. I am so thankful that my good friend Amy Carson was able to take pictures of the birth. And my husband and a very nice nurse took the pictures that she couldn’t take (since she wasn’t allowed in the C-Section room) 🙂
